Recycled Material - Vienite®
vienite Vienite® is a new polymeric based recycled material with performance characteristics equal to the polymer concrete that ACO has used in the manufacture of some of its products

Vienite® is a highly durable material that retains all the high performance flexural and compressive strength characteristics.

Vienite® is recyclable, ie. it can be collected, processed and returned for re-use as raw material.

Polymer Concrete
Polymer resin concrete is produced by mixing a variety of selected aggregates with a polyester resin binder to give a strong but lightweight material which can be cast into complex shapes.

ACO polymer concrete offers approximately 4 times the compressive strength of cement-based concrete, enabling ACO to produce lighter channels than equivalent concrete products. The compressive strength of the material is 90 - 100 N/mm2, compared with 20-40N/mm2. The flexural strength of the material is 20 - 25 N/mm2, ,much higher than concrete at 2-5 N/mm2

ACO polymer resin concrete channels are highly resistant to chemical attack and, with the appropriate grating, can be used in most environments where acids and dilute alkalis are likely to be encountered. The material is not affected by hydrocarbons or road de-icing salts.

Traditional ACO channel solutions are manufactured in polymer concrete, as are the monocast products (such as ACO KerbDrain, ACO RoadDrain and ACO ParkDrain) and ancillaries such as sump units.

Galvanised steel
Pre-galvanised steel is used to provide corrosion resistant channels, gratings and edge rails. Some items are hot dipped galvanised for increased corrosion resistance.

Steel gratings, edge rails and slot drain edges are supplied galvanised. ACO Profile is manufactured from a single folded sheet of pre-galvanised steel.

The recycled content of ACO galvanised steel products is approximately 30%.

Stainless steel
Austenitic stainless steel is used where a high degree of corrosion resistance is required and for its high quality aesthetic appearance. Channels, gratings and edge rails can be manufactured from grade 304 stainless steel or, for extreme conditions, particularly where chlorides are present, grade 316 stainless steel can be used.

Cast Iron
Cast iron is a durable, high strength material. Grey iron is used in ACO edge rails for heavy duty products. Ductile iron is used for gratings or covers.

The recycled content of ACO cast iron products is in the range of 60 - 80%.

All ACO iron gratings have a temporary black coating for aesthetic effect to protect the grating during storage and installation. Once installed the grating surface may begin to oxidise to bright orange. If regularly trafficked, the surface will be burnished to a glossy dark brown. This oxidisation does not affect the strength of cast iron gratings or covers.

Medium Density Polyethylene (MDPE)
MDPE is a robust chemically resistant plastic. Light, strong, flexible and water resistant products can be made out of this material. ACO Qmax is manufactured from black MDPE with a recycled content of approximately 100%. The material itself is fully recyclable.

Polypropylene is a thermoplastic material similar to polyethylene but stiffer, noted for its flexibility at low temperatures and its resistance to chemicals. ACO HexDrain is manufactured from UV-stabilised 100% recycled polypropylene, as are ACO DriveDrain gratings. These polypropylene products are all fully recyclable.

Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC)
Polyvinyl Chloride is a thermoplastic material composed of polymers of vinyl chloride. PVC has outstanding resistance to water, alcohols, and concentrated acids and alkalis. ACO DriveDrain, PatioDrain, Doorway Drain channels are all manufactured from foamed UV stabilised PVC. PVC is also recyclable.

Aluminium is a lightweight corrosion-resistance metal used for the frames of ACO Drainmat and InDoor.

The recycled content of ACO aluminium products is approximately 40%.

Sheet Moulded Compound (SMC)
Sheet Moulded Compound is a high strength reinforced thermosetting plastic used for ACO gratings and edge rails to provide lightweight, high load class products. Typical composition is polyester resin, glass fibre reinforcement and fillers.
